La Ceiba

La Ceiba Casa de Campo is a luxurious tropical house designed and built by the world-famous Colombian architect, Simon Velez. It was finished in 2009.

The house is covered by a guadua (Colombian bamboo) ceiling, a piece of art. Supported by 56 columns and a curved structure that reminds some people of a whale skeleton, it covers 1.265 square meters (13.900 sq ft). All along the front and the back of the house, the house has a free-standing roof of at least 8 meters (26 ft) wide by 57 meters (187 ft) long with no columns. The common areas of the house are below the already described beautiful roof but have no walls so that they integrate seamlessly into nature.

In front of the house, there is a 30 meters (100ft) lap infinity pool on all four sides, warmed to perfection and treated with salt instead of chlorine.

The property is 24 acres (10 hectares) with the most amazing landscaping with Colombian Ceibas, Samanes, Caracolis, Yong Baobabs, Mangostino, Guanabana, Guama, and Mango fruit trees as well as Tamarind. There are water lilies on the ponds like Victoria Regia and other Colombian and Asian varieties.

The house is located in Nilo, Cundinamarca, 130 kilometers from El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, through a mountain road (3 hours), or 92 kilometers from Ibague’s airport on a highway in one hour.

The house was published in an HBOMAX series called Arquis in Episode 4, Simon Velez.
